Abstract:
To identify high-yielding, high-quality and late blight-resistant potato cultivars suitable for winter production in northern Fujian Province, China, 13 potato cultivars developed by different breeding programs were evaluated for yield and resistance to late blight, with Favorita used as the control(CK). The results showed that Minshu 2, Wotu 5, Minshu 5, Minshu 12 and Minlongshu 1 produced yields of 58,739, 51,235, 50,899, 49,191 and 48,074 kg·hm
−2, respectively, representing increases of 23.55%, 7.77%, 7.06%, 3.47% and 1.12% over Favorita(CK). Detached-leaf inoculation assays for late blight resistance showed that Nanzhong 105, Minshu 2, Yunshu 116, S15-603, Minshu 12 and Minlongshu 1 were resistant to both Phytophthora infestans populations tested. Considering both yield performance and late blight resistance, Minshu 2, Minshu 12 and Minlongshu 1 exhibited superior overall agronomic performance and were well suited to the climatic conditions of winter cropping in southern China. These cultivars therefore have good potential for demonstration and wider cultivation in winter potato-growing regions of southern China.
