Abstract: Sweet potato is an important food crop in Fujian Province, the breeding of sweet potato seedling has played a key role for development of sweet potato industry. By outlining the gained experiences from sweet potato seedling breeding in Fujian Province at different developing stages, the scale and characteristics of sweet potato seedling industry, was summarized. Necessity to establish industrial base for qualified sweet potato seedlings in Fujian Province including the new variety demonstration and popularization, transformation of achievements, to ensure food security, to set up early warning mechanism of sweet potato overproduction, to control pest and disease and to supply qualified seedlings, to develop professional sweet potato industry, were summarized and the short-term goal of establishing industrial base for qualified sweet potato seedlings in Fujian Province were also put forward.
