Abstract:
A new emerging disease in mule ducks caused by a novel goose parvovirus was reported in this paper. The disease has been emerged and prevalent in some counties of Fujian province since Feb 2015. The disease is characterized by remarkable short beak with protruding tongues, locomotor dysfunction (weak legs) and growth retardation. We call it short beak and dwarfism syndrome (SBDS). The epidemiology, serology and etiology have been studied, suggesting that SBDS is caused by a new member of waterfowl parvovirus (a distinct linage of goose parvovirus-related group in the genus Dependovirus,a novel goose parvovirus). Based on the clinical characteristics, we named it as short beak type GPV (SB-GPV), to be different from classical Derzsy’s disease viruses and Muscovy duck parvoviruses (MDPV).
