Abstract
Vertical distribution of individual tree biomass of Fokienia hodginsii(Dunn) and Fujian Cypress stock were comparatively studied in this study. The results showed that the distribution ratio for Fokienia hodginsii(Dunn) was higher than that of Fujian Cypress stock, which was suitable for timber forest cultivation. Distribution ratio of trunk in Fokienia hodginsii(Dunn) was 4.7 percent points higher than that in Fujian Cypress stock. Significant differences were observed between single tree biomass vertical distributions of Fokienia hodginsii(Dunn) and Fujian Cypress. The trunk volume of different layers of Fokienia hodginsii(Dunn) decreased gently. The canopies of Fokienia hodginsii(Dunn) were longer , the leaf biomass of the 2-4 layer canopies accounted for 76.3% of the total leaf biomass, and that of the first and fifth layer accounted for14.9% and 8.8%, respectively. The leaves distributed in every section of the canopy, forming dense and compact one in which the leaves uniformly distributing in middle-top, middle and middle-low parts of the canopy, and few leaves distributing in low and top parts of the canopy. The leaf biomass-distributing trend was located in the lower side of the canopy. In Fujian Cypress stock, the trunk volume of different layers decreased sharply, and the canopies were mainly located in the second and third layer, the leaves biomass of which accounted for 81.7% of the total leaves. The canopies located obviously in higher position, and the fewer leaves were observed in the low part of the canopy (about one third).
