Strategies to improve the efficiency of maize breeding in China

Based on the results of previous studies, the main problems existing in the current maize breeding in China and the main strategy in improving breeding efficiency were analyzed, too narrow Germplasm base was considered as the main problem, and the breeding strategies were put forward, that include to use exotic germplasm, especially pioneer hybrid varieties to improve and select inbred lines, through selections of high density pressure and environmental pressure, and by combining modern biotechnology with conventional breeding technology to improve selection efficiency of maize breeding.
