A. microphylla ‘Minyu No.1’ which developed by the Agricultural Ecology Institute of Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a new hybrid Azolla breed with A. microphylla as female parent and A. filiculoides as male parent. The growth characteristics of ‘Minyu No.1’ were: polygon plant type, plane floating or slant floating on the water surface, the size of the Azolla frond is 10 mm×20 mm, upper lobes are long elliptical, the epidermis cells of the upper lobes are short, the lower lobes are white or pale-green, and it has strong cold-resistance, heat-resistance and salt-resistance, fast growing speed, large biomass production. The nutrition ingredients in dry matter of this breed were coarse protein 26.3%, crude fat 16%, crude fiber 11.2%, crude ash 13.6%, acid washing fiber 36.9% and neutral detergent fiber 50.3%. And its main cultivation techniques were summarized in this paper.
