Effects of Different Biochars on Soil Properties and Labile Organic Carbon in Orchards

    • In order to understand the improvement effect of different biochars on soil quality in orchard, a field experiment was conducted to study the effects of different biochars on soil properties and labile organic carbon. The results showed that the application of biochars to the orchard soil not only enhanced field moisture holding capacity, pH value, but also increased the content of microbial biomass carbon (MBC), while decreasing soil bulk density. Compared with the control, the moisture content, pH value and MBC content of the biochar treated soil increased by 1.05%-55.77%, 0.03-1.68 unit and 10.24%-90.94%, respectively, while soil bulk density decreased by 5.00%-32.50%. Altogether, the effects of different biochars on soil water content, bulk density, pH value and MBC content were different.
