Biochar Research and Industry Development Trends Seen from International Conferences-Review of the First International Symposium on Biochar Research and Application

    • China's agricultural development has been in the historical transition and transformation period, green and low-carbon development has become the direction of agricultural development in the new period. In this context, strengthening the protection and quality improvement of cultivated land, promoting the resource utilization of agricultural wastes, accelerating the reduction of fertilizer and pesticide application and the high efficiency, and conducting the comprehensive prevention and restoration of agricultural non-point source and heavy metal pollution have become major issues in agricultural development. Biochar was a highly aromatic carbon-rich substance produced by thermal cracking of biomass materials under anaerobic high temperature conditions. Its unique physical and chemical properties made it widely used in soil, environment and ecology, and has become an important approach for the sustainable management of soil and agriculture. By summarizing and reviewing the first international symposium on biochar research and application, the latest advances in biochar preparation and materials, biochar and agriculture, biochar and ecological environment, biochar and carbon and nitrogen cycle, biochar and blackland conservation were briefly summarized, and the research hotspot in the field of biochar was prospected, so as to provide reference for biochar research and industry development.
