Effects of Cadmium and Zinc Stress on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth Characteristics of Lolium Perenne L.

    • The effects of different concentrations of Cd (5, 10, 50, 100, 150 mg·kg-1) and Zn (50, 100, 400, 600, 800 mg·kg-1) on the seed germination and the seedling growth of Lolium perenne L. were studied by pot experiment. The results showed that: Under the stress of Cd and Zn, the germination and growth indexes of Lolium perenne L. were inhibited, which were negatively correlated with the concentration of heavy metals. The germination rate and germination potential of Lolium perenne L. showed strong differences under the treatment of Cd at concentrations of 50, 100 and 150 mg·kg-1 and Zn at concentrations of 400, 600 and 800 mg·kg-1. The length of buds and roots were both significantly inhibited under the treatment of 150 mg·kg-1 Cd and 800 mg·kg-1 Zn. And the the biomass of of shoot and root decreased compared with the control group, and suffered the strongest inhibition when the concentration of Cd was 50 and 100 mg·kg-1 while the concentration of Zn was 600 and 800 mg·kg-1. In general, Lolium perenne L. had a certain tolerance to the heavy metals of Cd and Zn.
