Phenotypic Traits Analysis and Aroma Sensory Evaluation of Aromatic Camellia Varieties

    • Aromatic Camellia had important economic value and research value. The analysis of phenotypic traits and sensory evaluation of aroma for aromatic Camellia variety resources could provide a basis for the development and utilization of aromatic Camellia resources. The observation on the flowering habits, determination on the phenotypic traits and sensory evaluation were carried out for the three introduced and preserved aromatic Camellia varieties, including Xiangtaiyang, Xiangfei and Keruimo Damudan. The results showed that there were differences in flower type, flower color, aroma and flowering habits among different aromatic Camellia cultivars. Xiangtaiyang was a delicate aroma style Camellia, with the most unique flower type, which was a double flower type of anemone. Xiangfei was a strong aroma style Camellia, which had the characteristics of gradual change of flower color, large amount of flowering and great market potential. Keruimo Damudan was a delicate aroma style Camellia, with the longest flowering period and an ornamental period of nearly half a year. The three aromatic Camellia varieties had strong ornamental value, long flowering period and were easy to be cultivated and managed, which could be used as the excellent varieties of the lunar new year flower for the expanding propagation and promotion.
