Identification of Indica-japonica Attributes of 54 Two-line Sterile Rice Materials and Analysis of Their Compatibility with Japonica Rice

    • Fifty-four advanced materials of two-line sterile lines were bred by crossing the indica two-line sterile lines with the two-line sterile lines of wide affinity or the conventional japonica rice. In order to screen the indica-japonica two-line sterile lines, the indica-japonica attributes of the tested 54 rice materials were analyzed by using 22 pairs of indica-japonica specific ILP molecular markers. Then, the two-line sterile line materials of indica rice type and partial indica type were test-crossed with the tested japonica rice varieties Qiuguang and Barilla. The results showed that there were 21 medium indica rice types, 16 meta indica rice types, 15 meta japonica rice types and 2 japonica rice types in 54 two-line sterile rice materials. Among the 37 two-line sterile line materials of indica rice type and meta indica type, the average seed setting rate of F1 of the nine two-line sterile line materials crossed with the tested japonica varieties Qiuguang and Balilla was more than 70 %, that was, they had indica-japonica characteristics, and the numbers were 2, 4, 6, 10, 19, 21, 23, 47 and 54, respectively. Nine rice materials of indica-japonica two-line sterile line were used to be crossed with the meta japonica restorer lines R107 and R510, respectively. It was found that No.2 had good compatibility with the japonica rice, and the combination had high seed setting rate and more total grains number per panicle, which belonged to the typical large-panicle type variety. No.47 also had good affinity with japonica rice, and the combination had high and stable seed setting rate, better comprehensive traits and high yield.
