Abstract
To investigate the pests of Dracontomelon duperreanum Pierre and their damages in Zhongshan, providing basic data on prevention and control of those pests. Manual investigations on Dracontomelon duperreanum growing areas in Zhongshan, using sweep net, averruncator et al.; raising the larvae and nymphs collected during investigations in lab. Eleven species of pests on Dracontomelon duperreanum are found in Zhongshan, which are Neoplocaederus obesus(Gahan, 1890), Corticeus sp., Xyloborinus sp., Coccotrypes sp., Phenolia picta(MacLeay, 1825)and Epuraea ocularis Fairmaire, 1849 of Coleoptera, Cossus sp., Prasinoxena metaleuca Hampson, 1912 of Lepidoptera, Ricania guttata(Walker, 1851), Thabena litaoensis(Yang, 1994)and Erthesina fullo(Thunberg, 1783)of Hemiptera; morphological diagnostic characters, damage positions and situations and habitats of those species are provided based on the information from field observations, specimens and literatures. In total, there are 11 species of pests on Dracontomelon duperreanum in Zhongshan belonging to 3 orders and 9 families, within which Neoplocaederus obesus of Coleoptera is the most important pest and could result in death of trees after persistent damages. Study on prevention and control of Neoplocaederus obesus is rare for now, further study is required to avoid larger losses.
