Abstract
To meet the diverse market demands, suitable new varieties of sweet black corn for cultivation in Quanzhou were selected. Nine new varieties were introduced, with Su Yu Nuo No. 5 as the control, for comparative trials. Comprehensive evaluations were conducted on growth period, agronomic traits, ear characteristics, external quality, taste assessment, disease and pest resistance, and other related indicators. The results showed that among the nine tested varieties, Heitan Nuonuo 168 exhibited the best overall performance: a shorter growth period(67 days), outstanding ear length(21.7 cm), number of rows per ear(15.9 rows), and grains per row(34.7 grains), with a fresh ear yield reaching 12,206.17 kg·hm−2, a 11.2% increase compared to the control, and a significant difference. Additionally, it demonstrated excellent external quality, superior color, and strong comprehensive disease resistance, making it a priority for promotion as a fresh black corn variety in the Quanzhou region. The yields of Motong and Jinhei No. 2 were higher than the control, but the difference was not significant. The yields of the other six varieties were lower than the control.
