Evaluation on Selenium content in vegetables of city suburb and selenium pollution in Fujian Province

Abstract
An investigation on status of Selenium contents in surface soil of vegetable-growing fields in city suburbs of Fujian Province and edible parts of more than 20 varieties of vegetables was carried out, the results showed that: the selenium content in edible parts of vegetables (fresh weight basis) varied 0.4-293.0 μg /kg, in which the Se content in leafy vegetables were high, beans, melons, root vegetables and solanaceous plants were relatively low; selenium contents in most of the edible parts of vegetables were lower than the national food hygiene standards, so main kinds of vegetables in the sampling area had not suffered from the selenium pollution.
